Seniors experience should be saved
For thousands of years people have been documenting their life's experiences, from drawings on cave walls to e-mail. Several hundred years ago, if you lived to be in your forties you were considered to be a senior. In today's world seniors live much longer, and you are considered a senior in your fifties and up.
Seniors have a great gift in life, a gift that only comes with time spent - the gift of experience. These individual experiences are as unique as the hairs on our head. While these experiences are similar in many ways, they truly are individually unique. Many of these experiences , knowledge, and wisdom have been documented for ages.
The process has improved and continues to improve. Today we have great opportunity to record important aspects of our individual lives. With the advancement of computers, people from around the globe have written, and are writing history. While this is improving daily, too many seniors leave this world with their stories untold or undocumented. Too many people die and traditions, family history, recipes, experience, knowledge, and ultimately wisdom, die with them. This is truly sad, and while we believe that some things are best left unsaid, there is much that is priceless, but gone.
Today's new breed of seniors have different demands and needs from their parents' . Thanks to their parents and grand-parents, the Baby Boomers have excelled in technology, and are very advanced. For many, the days of pen to paper are transformed to computing. There are many software tools like spell checkers and different fonts that make it possible for those that are not the greatest spellers, and legible writers, to publish their writings in a way that is legible enough to read and understand.
While the need to document remains the same through out the ages, the tools we have make it much easier. In today's world, seniors and families have the great opportunity to build websites! Many are flocking to build websites for various reasons. While creating income remains one of the top reasons, there are a number of reasons why seniors, and younger folks alike, would want to pursue building a site.
For families, websites are the modern-day scrapbook. Many, if not most, families have paperback scrapbooks. Now families can build websites that have scrapbooks in them, and protected pages that only let the people in that they want in. This is a great way to grow closer family bonds, and a great way to communicate with each other. How, you might ask?
Well, people tend to understand a letter they read easier than a one-on-one conversation. There are many times when we are in a conversation with someone, we are so busy thinking of what we are going to say, that it actually impairs our ability to hear what is said to us. So, our ability for communication is diminished. With electronic documentation it is easier. We have e-mail, RSS/XML (Really Simple Syndication) website's, e-books, etc... We even have instant messenger.
These tools let us read, think about what is being said, read it again if need be, and respond after the fact. When we decided to build our site, we did extensive research on which companies to go with. I am a Six Sigma Black Belt (Process Improvement Specialist) . Frankly, for me, there was no other way to come to a decision without validated research.
In the end, we chose to go with Site Build It. As a Six Sigma BB it has been my responsibility, when working on defects in a process, to seek and find the subject matter experts along with anyone that touches the process and utilize their experience and knowledge. This means gathering data, measuring it, analyzing it, facilitate teams to improve the defective process, and ultimately monitor and control it.
Has this always solved our problems? Why, of course not. Some times the team decided it was not feasible to go any further. What it has done is provide a systematic way of making good decisions and taking educated risks, while providing traceable data that allows for review when things aren't going like you expect. And yes, many root causes to problems were identified and resolved by this process. The days of shoot and aim are long gone for me. It's more like; learn how to aim, learn how to shoot, then aim, then shoot.
Using a prioritization matrix, helped us to determine the criteria that was important to us and find the best fitting glove. Site build It is that glove we needed. We wanted to build a website with a company that over-delivered on the price, suppport, training tools and analysis tools. How do you know where you are going, if you don't know where you are, or where you have been? Measuring our progress is critical to our successes.
We then entered the pilot stage. Site Build It/SiteSell is a no frills product. They have a great refund no time limit policy. You just ask for your money back anytime. SiteSell.com will refund you 100% within the first 30 days of purchase, and on a pro-rata basis after that, for whatever part of the year remains. This allowed us the opportunity to work on our site and cut our losses if the data and analysis determined. We are still here and rapidly growing!
Site Build It is always looking for newer, better tools. With all this said, Site Build's Look and Feel templates, and block building tools make it a breeze. The software walks you right through the process, and the support, and forums cover most anything else you need. Another determining factor was the reputation and integrity of Site Build It. We wanted a partner that would be reflective of the kind of best practices that we insist on in our business.
One of my favorite sayings in life is, "you can tell a tree by it's fruit".
I will let you figure out what that means, if you don't already know. Anyway, we chose Site Build It, and ultimately Store Build It Pro, for the store side. We are confident in our selections, and are proud to be part of the SBI team.
Don't settle-do the research and come to your own conclusions. I like Site Build for seniors because of the ease of page building. You do not need to know HTML code. You click and type like you normally type. I also like the fact that the owner, Dr. Ken Evoy, is a senior. He is very active in continually researching and developing his product to fit his customer needs. He loves what he does.
It is proven time and time again that if you do what you love, then you will love what you do. You then will pour yourself into it and cannot be denied. Whalla, you then have great results. Ken wants to hear from you on what you think will improve the products, and why you bought, or will not buy, his product. That, to me, is what I consider critical to quality.
Don't forget to save the SeniorsProducts-kdr.com site to your favorites/content and check out more about building your own site at our "You can do this!" page.
Or better yet go through the free, simple steps on the Blogety Blurb page and save us to an RSS/XML feed or to the "My Yahoo home page" and save us there!
It's free and the information & products that you will have at one site will prove to be incredibly valuable!
